Getting Started
Absolutely. Seriously. You do not need any wrestling experience to join Hub. We’re building a club where people can learn the sport from the beginning while also giving experienced wrestlers a place to keep training. You don’t need to know what a takedown is, own a singlet, or have any idea what you’re doing on your first day. We’ll teach you.You also don't need to arrive already fit, strong, flexible, or athletic. Wrestling is physical and you'll probably get tired, but we'll meet you where you are and you can work at a level that's appropriate for you.If you have wrestling experience, you’re welcome too. We want Hub to be a place where people at different experience levels can train together and help each other get better.
Yes. Hub Wrestling is currently for adults 18 and older.A lot of wrestlers find that their opportunities to keep wrestling become much more limited after college. Hub is focused on creating spaces where adults of all ages and experience levels can continue in the sport, get back on the mat, or discover wrestling for the first time. All participants must be 18+ to participate in Hub practices, clinics, and other wrestling activities.
Hub is an LGBTQ+ forward wrestling club in Boston, but you do not have to be LGBTQ+ to join.We want to create a wrestling community where LGBTQ+ people can feel at home while also welcoming anyone who wants to wrestle, learn, compete, or be part of the community.Everyone is expected to treat their teammates and training partners with respect. Discrimination, harassment, bullying, and other behavior that makes the space unsafe or unwelcoming are not part of Hub.
Absolutely.Hub is LGBTQ+ forward and welcomes women, non-binary wrestlers, and people of all gender identities. We’re building the community from the ground up, so the makeup of each practice will depend on who shows up. We can’t promise that you’ll always have a training partner who shares your gender identity, but we can promise that everyone at Hub is expected to treat each other with respect. If you have questions or want to talk about anything before coming to practice, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to chat.
Hub focuses primarily on freestyle wrestling, with practices and instruction designed around the kind of wrestling you'll encounter in amateur competition. We'll also spend time on fundamentals and techniques that are useful regardless of your experience level.
